The panel of the State Committee on Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus considered and approved 15 state and 2 regional R&D programs for 2021-2025 in six priority areas of scientific, technical and innovative activities, approved by the Edict of the President of the Republic of Belarus No. 156 dated May 7, 2020.

Priority areas of scientific, technical and innovative activities, as noted by the Chairman of the SCST Alexander Shumilin, are the basis and guideline for shaping state policy in these areas, including the priority use of the republican and local budget funds allocated for scientific and innovative activities.

Having a developed industrial complex, Belarus formed the largest number – namely five – of state R&D programs in the priority area of "Engineering, engineering technologies, instrumentation and innovative materials". Promising areas also include biological, medical and pharmaceutical technologies and production, where three state programs are being formed. The same number of programs is being elaborated within the area "Ensuring the security of people, society and the state". Two state programs – “Ecology and environmental management” and “Building structures, materials and technologies” – are being formed within the framework of the priority area “Energy, construction, ecology and environmental management”. Such priority areas as "Digital information and communication and interdisciplinary technologies, production based on them" and "Agro-industrial and food technologies" has one program each.

“The programs are aimed at further development of information, medical, engineering, agro-industrial technologies, energy, construction, ecology and the creation of innovative industries based on the technologies of V and VI technological modes,” Alexander Shumilin emphasized.
