The Eurasian Economic Union has intercepted over 80 million counterfeit products over the past 5 years. Such data stated by the Assistant to the Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission Iya Malkina.

Iya Malkina noted that the issue related to counterfeit products tops the list of EAEU concerns. “Over the past 5 years only more than 52 thousand administrative offenses and crimes related to the detection of counterfeit products were revealed in the EAEU countries”, she said. “According to the detected offenses, more than 80 million counterfeit products were intercepted. The numbers are quite impressive amounting to 15.3 million counterfeit units in 2020 only. However, the 2020 statistics shows a 11% decrease. This may be caused by a slowdown in business activity”.

The Assistant to the Chairman of the EEC Board highlighted that it is necessary not only to identify counterfeit products, but also to create conditions for preventing offenses. That is what EEC is engaged in together with the competent authorities of the EAEU member states. In particular, an agreement was adopted to coordinate the protection of intellectual property rights, which aims to create the conditions for the interaction of all authorized bodies of the EAEU member states involved in combating intellectual property infringements. The regulations for the information interaction of authorized bodies and EEC, and Eurasian standards of organizations’ work on collective management of authors’ rights were approved as well.
