Vitaly Kolesnikov was born on 21 June 1936 in the Altai Region. He graduated from the S. M. Kirov Leningrad Forestry Academy, qualifying as a chemical engineer specialising in «Chemical Technology of Wood Processing». He undertook postgraduate studies at the Institute of Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the Latvian SSR. For 56 years (1965–2021), he worked at the Belarusian State Technological University (BSTU).
In 1966, Vitaly Leonidovich defended his Candidate of Sciences thesis, and in 1988, his doctoral thesis on the topic В«Control of the sizing process in paper and board massВ». He was awarded the title of Professor in 1990.
Vitaly Leonidovich was the first in the world to develop an original theory of colloid-chemical regulation in paper and board technology.
The practical recommendations developed by the scientist have been implemented at many leading pulp and paper mills in Belarus and abroad.
In 1968, Vitaly Leonidovich established BelarusВ»s only Department of Pulp and Paper Production and served as its head until 1985. In 1990, the professor established the Department of Environmental Protection and Occupational Health and Safety. From 1995 to 2021, he worked as a professor in the Department of Informatics and Computing. The unique algorithms (over 70 types) and applied computer programmes (over 80 types) he developed have been incorporated into the educational curriculum for many degree programmes, as well as into operational production facilities producing a wide range of composite materials with varying properties and areas of application.
The results of Vitaly Leonidovich KolesnikovВ»s many years of scientific research are set out in 537 scientific publications in the form of monographs (2), textbooks (9), articles (280), copyright certificates (17) and patents (19).
Under the supervision of Professor V. Kolesnikov, 1 doctoral thesis, 10 candidate of sciences theses and 18 masterВ»s theses have been successfully defended, as well as over 200 degree projects and dissertations.
For his many years of fruitful scientific, teaching and organisational work, Vitaly Kolesnikov has been awarded certificates of honour from the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus and the В«BellesbumpromВ» concern, as well as the В«Winner of the Socialist CompetitionВ» (1974, 1981) and В«Excellence in EducationВ» (2005).
