Olga Nikiforova and Maria Shmatava from Industrial Property Law and Treaties Division of the Legal and Human Resources Department spoke at the press conference «Formation of legal literacy in the field of intellectual property among the younger generation» on the occasion of the International Children's Day.

As part of this event Olga Nikiforova and Maria Shmatava told about what is intellectual property, what are the rights of minors in respect of intellectual property, and gave examples of developments made by children.

"It should be borne in mind that the ability having the author rights and other results of intellectual activity (RIA) does not depend on the age of the person who reaches such results. In this connection child authors have exactly the same set of rights to the R&D created by them as if they were created by adult authors. However, unlike adult authors for child authors there are peculiarities of exercising of intellectual rights. So, up to the age of 14 the author's rights to intellectual property are exercised by his/her legal representatives. From the age of 14 the author can exercise the rights of the author independently", - Maria Shmatava noted in her speech.
