International seminar on the Madrid and Lisbon systems was held in Minsk

The international seminar «International Registration of Trademarks, Geographical Indications and Appellations of Origin: Madrid and Lisbon Systems» was held in Minsk on November 22, 2023.

The seminar was organized by the State Committee on Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus, the National Center of Intellectual Property (NCIP) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) with the support of the Republican Library on Science and Technology.

The event was attended by representatives of more than 50 organizations and enterprises – a total of more than 100 participants both on site and online.

Leading experts from NCIP, WIPO, Federal Institute of Industrial Property (Russian Federation), experts in the field of international trademarks, patent attorneys of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation spoke about the issues of legal protection of trademarks abroad, examination and judicial practice in relation to non-traditional trademarks, shared their experience in creating regional brands to increase the economic and investment prospects of the Belarusian regions, as well as cooperation within the framework of WIPO and other international organizations.

The practical experience of the Russian Federation in acceding to the Lisbon System – the international system for registration of appellations of origin and geographical indications -was of particular interest to the seminar participants.

The seminar ended with awarding of certificates confirming participation in the event.
