The second Russian vaccine against coronavirus has officially been granted patents.

“The State Research Center of Virology and Biotechnology VECTOR has obtained patents for the COVID-19 vaccine,” states the Federal Service for Intellectual Property (Rospatent). It was named "EpiVacCorona".

Rospatent noted that this vaccine differs in that it contains virus fragments – synthetic peptide antigens. A vaccine based on them triggers an immune response against COVID-19 and further contributes to the development of immunity. In total, three patents were issued for inventions, each of which contains a certain modified virus fragment.

According to Rospatent, since the beginning of the pandemic, about 300 patent applications have been filed for inventions aimed at combating coronavirus. Thus, another vaccine was previously patented – the Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology has been granted a patent for the world's first vaccine against COVID-19 "Sputnik V".
