September 9, 2022, was the 28th anniversary of the Eurasian Patent Convention - the date of establishment of the Eurasian Patent Organization (EAPO). To date, the Eurasian regional system of intellectual property protection has been applied for more than 67000 times.
The boundary of 67000 applications to the Eurasian Patent Office (EAPO) was reached last weekend. Under this number, the EAPO received an application from a pharmaceutical company from the United States of America. It concerns the patenting of a group of chemical compounds used to treat cancer. The application has been filed under the PCT system of international patents.
If the application is granted, the patent will be valid in all eight EAPO member states, including the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus.
- Such a big number of applications to our office shows the enormous demand of the world technological and business communities for Eurasian patents and regional legal protection of their intellectual property. This is a confirmation of the reliability and effectiveness of the single Eurasian patent, which is valid on the territory of eight Eurasian states and allows the patent holder to enter the market with a total GDP of about 1.8 trillion dollars. Residents of more than 130 countries have become users of the Eurasian patent system. I am sure that more and more business entities and inventors will turn to the Eurasian regional patent system, and new states will join the EAPO, - Grigory Ivliev said.
