V.Sharshunov was born on April 4, 1949 in the Kruglovka village, Rudnyansky district, Smolensk region. He graduated from the Belarusian Agricultural Academy (BAA).

He served as senior engineer-controller at the Rudnyansky branch of the Smolensk Regional Production Association “Rosselkhoztekhnika”; craftsman at the engineering center of the “Gomselmash” plant; assistant, senior lecturer, head of the department, rector of BAA; Head of the Main Department of Human Resources and Agrarian Education of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Belarus; Vice-President of the Academy of Agrarian Sciences of the Republic of Belarus; Deputy Chairman of the Permanent Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus for Education, Culture, Science and Scientific and Technical Progress; Deputy Chairman of the State Attestation Committee of the Republic of Belarus; Deputy Chairman, Head of the Attestation Department of the Higher Attestation Commission of the Republic of Belarus; Rector of Mogilev State University of Food Technologies.

The main studies of V.Sharshunov are devoted to agricultural engineering. He developed the scientific foundations of introducing into agricultural production a number of new energy and resource-saving waste-free technologies and sets of machines for harvesting, processing and using crops for seed and animal feed, as well as in forage production and livestock-raising.

Under his leadership, there was a technology and a complex of fundamentally new harvesting machines and post-harvest processing of clover seeds, lupine, cereal herbs and other feed crops developed. V.Sharshunov, together with his graduate students, are developing a set of engineering devices for forage production and livestock-raising.

V.Sharsunov is the author of more than 460 scientific and methodological works, including 12 textbooks, 10 monographs and reference books, 9 brochures and books, more than 70 copyright certificates and patents for inventions. His research results were published in Russia, Germany, Holland, Poland, Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia.

V.Sharshunov is the Laureate of the Special Prize of the Mogilev City Executive Committee in the nomination “Education”; he was also awarded the Order of Honour; the title “Honorary Doctor of Science”. He became the Laureate of the regional award “Person of the Year” in the nomination “Social and Political Activities”.
