Belarus-Chinа cooperation in scientific and technical sphere

On November 19, 2020, the third meeting of the Commission on Scientific and Technical Cooperation of the Belarus-Chinа Intergovernmental Committee on Cooperation was held in a video conference format. The Belarusian delegation was headed by the Chairman of the State Committee on Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus (SCST) Alexander Shumilin, the Chinese delegation – by the Deputy Minister of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China Huang Wei.

Addressing the meeting participants, the Chairman of the State Committee on Science and Technology noted that parties plan to implement at least 40 joint projects over the next two years.

“The priority directions of science and technology development of Belarus and China coincide in many respects. Therefore, we can safely say that we have a huge potential for implementation of joint projects in a number of areas of mutual interest,” – stressed Alexander Shumilin. He also noted that in recent years, bilateral scientific, technical and innovative cooperation has significantly expanded. If, according to the results of the first meeting of the Commission of the Intergovernmental Committee on Cooperation, 28 projects were implemented in the field of microelectronics, optical and laser technologies, biotechnologies, new materials, then following the results of the 2nd meeting their number increased by a quarter.

Moreover, during the event, it was decided to hold a competition for joint scientific and technical projects for 2021-2022 in the ICT field, medicine and pharmacy, biotechnology, mechanical engineering, new materials and agriculture.

Director General Uladzimir Rabavolau took part in the event on behalf of the National Center of Intellectual Property.

One of the positive examples of cooperation between NCIP and its Chinese partners is the opening of a Technology and Innovation Support Center (TISC) at the Great Stone Chinese-Belarusian Industrial Park.

The project on the development of the TISC network has been implemented by the National Center of Intellectual Property with the support of the State Committee on Science and Technology since 2016 under the auspices of the World Intellectual Property Organization. At present, in addition to the newly created TISC, there are eight more TISCs in Belarus: in the Republican Library for Science and Technology, in its five regional branches, as well as in the National Center of Intellectual Property and the Belarusian State University.
